Chaplain Poems

I served as a Hospice Chaplain from 2000-2005. Visiting hundreds of families and supporting them as their loved one died. For each I folded a paper crane, for many I wrote poems. Poetry helped me discern the gift they had given me and release their story with love. In 1999 I was in the CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) program at UCDavis Medical Center. This intense year of training spawned a book of poetry: Gifts of Suffering. I hope to publish a book of the Hospice poems at some point.
